Mind in Chester’s carers support group offers emotional support for those who are in the role of caring for a close family member or relative who suffers from any form of mental health distress. This will also include people who have long term or terminal illnesses, as often the distress caused by a diagnosis can cause prolonged mental health issues amongst the diagnosed which can often leave the carer in a shocked and confused state.
If you are reading this as a carer and you feel you don’t need or deserve support then please take a look at the questions below. If you can tick at least three of these then please come along to our group as it may suits your needs.
1. Do you yearn for the life you once had?
2. Do you feel like no-one has the time to listen?
3. Do you sit in a crowded room and yet feel isolated?
4. Do you feel no-one understands your situation?
5. Do you feel guilty because you are so exhausted?
6. Do you feel as if you have had a loss but no-one has died?
The above questions have been taken from several people who have been a carer at some point in their lives, who never had the opportunity to share their stories with other like-minded people – Thus often being left fraught with guilt and even at times feeling anger with themselves for even thinking some of the above. Mind in Chester’s support group is being set up for the sole intention to alleviate some of these issues by way of support from other carers within the group.
