Established in 1964, the local Mind association in Chester has a long history of promoting good mental health in the Chester area. In recent years our dedicated team of trustees have driven forward the development and review of Mind in Chester’s services.
In 2008, a mapping exercise was completed which looked at existing mental health services and levels of need in Chester. This consultation not only informed our choices in terms of looking at future service development, but also gave us clear evidence of need and information with which to structure funding applications, develop our infrastructure, build partnerships, networks and contacts.
2009 was an exciting year in Mind in Chester’s re-development, and saw the official launch of the organisation under the new name of Mind in Chester (previously Chester and District mind) and the launch of three new services – a peer mentor project, a comprehensive information service, and a social and leisure group. We welcomed our new staff team – our Development Officer, Information Officer, and Office Manager – alongside a team of mental health professionals and a new Volunteer Coordinator joining us to run our peer mentoring project. Mind in Chester strived to involve the public and mental health service users as we expanded our service delivery.
2010 – ‘Bridging the Gaps’
This year, the organisation has continued to develop. We successfully launched a group for voice hearers in Chester, and continue to develop and expand our information service.
